Research and Documentation - WordPress History

WordPress History

WordPress was developed in 2003 by Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little. WordPress started as a blogging tool but Mullenweg and the developer of the blogging tool Micheal Valdrighi worked to create the first version of WordPress which was released in 2004. IN 2005 themes were introduced and many of the themes were created by users because of the open source product.

WordPress.org Entity

Wordpress.org is used to download WordPress the open source CMS. Then you can use it to create your website but will have to manually do everything yourself which can result in much more customization. You will have to find your hosting provider when using this version of WordPress.

WordPress.com Entity

WordPress.com is less customizable but faster to set up and create a website, then this would be the option. WordPress.com is pre-installed and ready to use when you sign up as well as hosting provided. Prices vary depending on the features the user wants and if they want more the prices increase.

Summary

Both of the WordPress sites are created by the same developer but offer different features. WordPress.org is more customizable and you have full control of the website. While WordPress.com offers an easy-to-set and get-going website due to the provided hosts, you do not get as much with the free version of WordPress and will have to pay more for better features.
